Battlefield Bad Company 2 is currently on target to become the top selling title of March 2010. With over 2.3 million units sold it has become the best-selling March release on record in North America and Europe.

With 46 reviews awarding Bad Company 2 over 90 or higher (allowing for converting to a score out of 100 by www.metacritic.com) it is no wonder Battlefield Bad Company 2 is showing such strength in numbers throughout the game stats and social media networks:

81 billion points have been earned in online multiplayer sessions
43 million weapons and gadgets have been unlocked in online multiplayer
Over 6 million video views on YouTube
2.9 million hours have been spent playing online in the last 24 hours alone
230k peak-concurrent-users (PCUs)
Over 44k Twitter fans (most out of any EA title) http://twitter.com/OfficialBFBC2

Bad Company 2 has proven so popular that our servers experienced such overwhelming demand that EA and DICE have had to add even more hardware to handle the player numbers. We continue to monitor online play daily to make sure everyone can play as well as continue to work on the game for future updates and DLC which you can get at no extra cost with the VIP code (PC BFBC2 players will get the content in the form of downloads without the need for a VIP code).

CC Sabathia and Private Terrence Sweetwater take time to talk about the problem close to all our hearts... random grenades. Together with Friends Really Against Grenade Spam (F.R.A.G.S) and the useful tips in the PSA video we can put an end to the shameful waste of grenades and team play, together.

From the postings by Scinto in the forums and EA's own threads:

*UPDATE* 522175 is going live now. STEAM will launch later, possibly tomorrow, as it needs to go through extra QA before it goes live on Steam.

Version 522175 is going live within a couple of minutes. This has fixed the multiplayer map CTD's we experienced with 522174.

[NOTE: 522175 is merely a re-packaging of the datafiles from 522174. Therefore, version 522175 reports itself as 522175 in the auto-patcher, but does still say "522174" in the game's splash screen.]

Changelog for 522175:

A pretty good interview with DICE over at IGN:

I recently caught up with Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer at DICE for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, to chat about how the development process went on DICE's latest hit videogame and what the group has in store for the future. Among other things, we talked about the server issues Bad Company 2's multiplayer suffered from near launch, just how popular the game has been, and the friendly competition currently raging with Modern Warfare 2.

Troedsson was eager to let everyone know just how popular the multiplayer game has become in just a few short weeks. In the 24 hours prior to our discussion, 4 million game hours had been logged in the multiplayer game -- and that is not counting time spent sitting in lobbies. To date, over 10 billion points have been won in the multiplayer game and 40 million weapon and gear items have been unlocked.
That popularity hasn't come without its share of problems, however. Server issues have plagued the launch of Bad Company 2, as they did with the launch of Battlefield 1943 last summer. Troedsson told IGN that it wasn't a matter of underestimating the popularity -- at least not this time.
